London Mayor, Sadiq Khan has called on the government to ask all secondary schools and colleges in the capital to close as soon as possible.
“I am calling on the Government to urgently provide additional support to get the spread under control”, he said.
In a statement made on his twitter page https://twitter.com/SadiqKhan/status/1338391648691163136 he wrote ” Covid-19 cases are rising in our city, I urge the Government to provide London with the extra support we desperately need to get the virus under control, save lives, save jobs and protect our NHS.”
He said “the surge in coronavirus cases across our capitals is deeply concerning. The government must ensure our NHS is not overwhelmed this winter.”
Mr. Khan said “testing should be expanded urgently to students”. London is currently in tier two, but the capital may be put into three restrictions, the highest level following a rise in Covid-19 cases.
The government announced mass testing for schools in areas of London which was greatly hit by the pandemic, which are in tier two and tier three.
