The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. John Dramani Mahama has said that he wants the removal of doubt in the just ended 2020 December 7 election results.
Speaking to the general public on Wednesday, December 30, 2020, Mr. Mahama said he wants Ghanaians to know that elections should be transparent. ” I want for all of us to know that our elections should be free, fair and safe, and that we do not have to settle for a process that leaves us confuse and with more questions than answers” he said.
Mr. Mahama said “I want a Ghana where institutions of state can be held to account where we can stand on principles and demand transparency without the risk of loosing our lives”.
The flagbearer said his decision not to concede defeat to his opponent Nana Akufo-Addo should not be taken lightly. ” So when I say that I will not concede this election please know that, I’m not taking this decision lightly, understand that it is not because of a desire for power but because of a dedication to principle and a commitment to democracy”.
Mr. Mahama said he has reasons to doubt the outcome of the 2020 election based on the inconsistency of the results. “Based on the irregular and inconsistent results that were reported I have reasons to doubt that this election was not free, fair and transparent”.
“Some people have asked me what I hope to gain by challenging the results of this election, lets me tell you, I want perhaps the very same thing that my opponent wanted when in 2020 he challenged the results of that election” he said.
