Presidential inauguration: Ceremony strictly by invitation – Parliament announces


The Parliament of Ghana has announced that the inauguration ceremony of the President elect, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo – Addo will be strictly by invitation.

In a press release signed and issued by the Director of Public Affairs, Kate Addo, the inauguration activities are strictly by invitation. The Ceremony activities are intended to dissolve the 7th Parliament and inaugurate the 8th.

The President on Tuesday, January 5, 2020, will deliver his final State of the Nation Address before parliament at 10: 00 am.

A new Speaker and two other Deputy Speakers will be elected on 7th January at 12:00 am by the Elected Members of the 8th Parliament. This is in accordance with Article 95, 96 and 100(2) of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana.

Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo will be sworn in as President of the Republic of Ghana before parliament, a requirement by law according to Article 57(3) of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana.

According to the press release, all Covid-19 protocols will be strictly observed throughout the programme.
