President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo will address the nation on Covid-19 tonight, Sunday, January 31 at 8:00 pm on measures taken against the spread of coronavirus.
The address will be his 23rd update since the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic in Ghana.
At a press briefing on Monday, January 25, the minister of information, Mr Kojo Oppong Nkrumah said that there is the possibility of a lockdown and tighter restrictions due to the rise in Covid -19 cases in the country recently.
According to him, an average of 200 persons tested positive for the Covid daily and imposition of restrictions should be anticipated.
“Yes, there is a possibility of some more restriction being introduced especially with regards to how this trend is going. If these numbers keep rising where the average daily increases to 210 – 250 that means in five days we will be hitting about 1000 plus. So if it continues, then the president himself anticipated, then we are heading for some restrictions and if it means reviewing some of the legal instruments, we will do so” he said.
Sources from media houses also suggest that there is likely to be a partial lockdown due to the daily rise of cases in the country.
