US Senate allows full proceedings of Trump’s impeachment trial

The United States(US) Senate has allowed the full proceedings of former President Donald Trump’s impeachment trial saying it is constitutional.

Mr Donald Trump is accused of inciting violence against the government of the United States when Congress was stormed on Wednesday, January 6, 2020.

Mr Trump’s defence team contended that he could not face trial after leaving the White House.

Majority were in support of false claims that some electoral fraud led to Trump’s defeat in the presidential election.

Six Republican senators voted to go ahead with the impeachment however 17 Republicans votes would be needed to convict Mr Trump.

Democrats opened the proceedings by showing a dramatic video of Mr Trump’s speech on January 6, 2021 and the deadly rioting to convict him.
